every implementation of age verification i’ve seen either requires you to trust a provider with really personal information or your biometrics, and that alone freaks me out
this whole push for age verification is also going to potentially break smaller platforms and federated networks, and i don’t doubt there’s some involved in these pushes interested in centralizing internet activity onto big platforms that are easier to manipulate.
making pseudonymous users hand over PII and connecting a real person to a thing that’s only supposed to exist online is a problem for people who just like having their actions disconnected from themselves, whistleblowers or people that could be in actual danger if their identities were known.
